Robotic Radical Nephrectomy

Robotic radical nephrectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of a kidney, along with the surrounding tissues and lymph nodes, using a robotic system. This procedure is typically performed for Kidney Cancer Treatment or other conditions that affect the kidney.

A kidney filters blood and eliminates waste products from the body in the form of urine. An abnormal growth of cells in your kidney tissue is known as kidney cancer. Eventually, these cells form a mass known as a tumor.

During the procedure, the surgeon makes several small incisions in the abdomen and inserts robotic arms equipped with surgical instruments and a camera. The surgeon then controls the robotic arms from a console, using a high-definition 3D monitor to guide the instruments and camera.

The robotic system provides several advantages over traditional open surgery, including smaller incisions, less blood loss, reduced pain and scarring, and a shorter hospital stay.

We have specialized doctors in Robotic Partial Nephrectomy and Dr. Kishore is fellowship trained in the USA at the University of Miami under the pioneers in Robotic Surgery and Urooncology. Having worked in the USA for a few years, he returned to India to start the Robotic Programme at Aster Medcity.

In 2014, he was the first person in Kerala to begin robotic surgery. He has performed more than 1000 kidney cancer surgeries. With his surgical expertise, he is able to remove large tumors and those involving major veins robotically. He is the first person in India to perform Robotic Radical Nephrectomy and IVC Thrombectomy in India. He is the second person in the world to perform Level 3 IVC thrombectomy in the World and is known as a pioneer in this area.
