Penile Prosthesis Procedure

Penile Prosthesis Procedure is a surgical procedure used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men who have not responded to other treatments such as medication or vacuum erection devices. During the procedure, a surgeon implants a penile prosthesis, which is a device that allows the man to achieve an erection.

There are two types of penile prostheses: inflatable and non-inflatable. Inflatable prostheses consist of two cylinders that are implanted in the penis, a pump that is implanted in the scrotum, and a reservoir that is implanted in the abdomen. Non-inflatable prostheses consist of a semi-rigid rod that is implanted in the penis.

The procedure is performed under general or spinal anesthesia and typically takes 1-2 hours to complete. The surgeon makes an incision in the penis and implants the prosthesis. The patient is usually able to go home the same day or the following day.

Penile Prosthesis Procedure is a safe and effective treatment option for ED, with a high success rate in restoring sexual function. However, like any surgical procedure, there are risks and potential complications, which should be discussed with a healthcare provider.
